Phidias is showing the NW corner of the frieze to his friends. To the left is the end of the North frieze showing slab XLVII with riders. To the right is the West frieze depicting part of a cavalcade which continues round the corners of the building, moving towards the inspection of the sacred peplos shown on the East frieze.
