Athena Medici
This statue of Athena is a copy of an original of about 440-430
BCE.
She wears a chiton beneath peplos with belted overfall, aegis and
cloak hanging at the back, once with shield and spear.
Since several other copies are acrolithic it has been thought a
copy of an original acrolith (by Phidias for Plataea ; or by Kolotes for
Elis), but has also been associated with Athena Promachos or the Athena
of the Parthenon east pediment.
Close to the Parthenon pediment style.
440-430 BCE, Height 2.45
Paris, Louvre 3070
