Alterations to the Judgment of Paris show that Rubens first painted this earlier moment in the story when Mercury ordered the Goddesses to undress; the final stage shows Paris awarding the golden apple to Venus, who stands between Minerva and Juno; Mercury stands behind Paris; above is the Fury, Alecto.
